The Exterior

Lexus' design team determined from the outset that the LFA would be an high-performance car when they began designing it in early 2000. The Interior

As part of its purpose as an architectural statement and showpiece for Lexus' future, the LFA cabin is an impressive study in contrasts. It features two bucket seats covered in leather, Alcantara, and machined aluminum; its dash boasts carbon fiber and metallic surfaces; its Remote Touch controller works like a computer mouse with haptic feedback to assist navigation; while an incredible Mark Levinson audio system delivers incredible soundscaping capabilities.

Though it's obvious that the LFA is stunningly beautiful, its designers also sought to ensure it would be comfortable for everyday driving and living with. That meant reducing its heft, and they went to great lengths in doing so - for instance using lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced polymer for 65 percent of its body and connecting its transmission and engine via a rigid torque tube so as to bring mass closer to its core and decrease its center of gravity.

Lexus engineers have devised an ingenious way for drivers who wish to feel the power of their engine at home: channel two octaves of the exhaust note through the cabin. It creates a spectacular sound even standing still; when you pull up at redlights with one of these beauties, bystanders will clap in admiration!

From within the cockpit, you'll have a great view of your powerful V10 engine through a digital thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument display. There are various modes available including sport mode which inverts colors, moves redline forward and displays larger numbers to warn when you are pushing too hard.

Lexus designed its two-seat cabin to stand out from other current Lexus models with a unique look, unifying all design elements into an enjoyable driving experience. The steering wheel features alloy paddle shifters and right-mounted ignition button for optimal driving posture. A center console featuring a curved design holds climate controls as well as the infotainment system which is controlled via remote controller located within it. Lexus ensured an enjoyable driving experience in their LFA with plenty of amenities that prioritize comfort over speed.

The Performance

The LFA is one of the rarest cars ever created, as well as one of the fastest. It can hit 60mph in under 3.6s - quite an accomplishment for a luxury brand generally known for comfort.

Lexus' forthcoming EV supercar will boast a different powertrain from that of the LFA; yet, we hope that we'll soon get to experience its thrilling driving dynamics on track.

The Value

The LFA was intended to be a true supercar, with a massive amount of downforce produced by its long nose, tall haunches, scoops and vents, speed-sensitive rear wing that rises when driving over 50 mph and carbon fiber body giving it sleek and muscular appearance. Lexus offers various exterior and interior color choices for buyers to select - though their "option" packages do not specify additional costs beyond its $375,000 MSRP price point.

At its release, critics were less than enthusiastic in their reviews for Toyota/Lexus' LFA sports car; many described it as an expensive irrelevance that failed to offer performance comparable with those found on Ferrari and Lamborghini models at roughly the same price point. Since then however, its incredible engine and build quality have allowed it to surpass all criticism normally associated with luxury sports cars that cost almost one million dollars.

No doubt about it: the Lexus LFA is an exceptional car, but that doesn't make it free from flaws. For instance, its weight compared to competitors can lead to understeer and excessive body lean in corners. Furthermore, due to being designed around an older generation of turbocharged engines it doesn't offer instant torque like modern high-performance machines do.

Even with its faults, the LFA remains an incredible machine well worth owning by any fan of exotic cars.
