Hyundai Veloster N Gets an Optional Eight-Speed Dual-Clutch Automatic Transmission

Hyundai has managed to achieve something rare among automakers: their initial launch of a sporty model is spot-on with their 2021 Veloster N now featuring an optional eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and added extra features that have only made an already great car even better.

Hyundai's dual-clutch automatic is an absolute pleasure to use and perfectly executes upshifts and downshifts. Plus, its unique "N Grin Shift" feature allows drivers to temporarily boost turbo boost for added power!

Drive Modes

The 2021 Veloster features an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission meeting N Brand thermal capacity and endurance requirements, complete with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. In addition, there's a sport mode allowing manual control by momentarily shifting gear selector forward or backward, along with launch control system that optimizes shift timing. A wet clutch provides improved lubrication and cooling performance during higher-torque applications while an electronic actuator delivers power directly to wheels - this helps ensure maximum acceleration with minimum fuel economy!

Veloster N offers different drive modes that enable drivers to optimize its characteristics for different driving situations, from daily commutes and highway cruising, through Sport mode's responsive acceleration and thrilling handling capabilities, Eco and Snow modes provide optimal functionality under challenging weather conditions.

The N Mode button (which looks like a checkered flag) enables drivers to further personalize their driving experience by altering engine response, exhaust sound levels, suspension dampening and steering feel. Simply press its button at the lower right side of your steering wheel to activate it.

When it comes to exhausts, this mode is a must: downshifts will produce an array of pops, crackles and sputters sure to put a smile on your face while upshifts feature an astounding bark that cannot be rivaled.

N Track Mode unlocks numerous other awesome features as well, such as N Power Shift which automatically engages when the pedal is pressed 90% of the way for quick and maximum torque delivery to the wheels, as well as N Track Sense Shift which analyzes road conditions and driving style to optimize shift points and launch control.

This feature is ideal for track drivers, as it ensures that vehicle performance settings are customized to offer the greatest control and precision. When in N Track mode, for instance, high torque mode activates which maximizes power of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Powertrain

The Veloster N is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque - more power than most competitors in its price range! You have your choice between either a six-speed manual transmission or eight-speed dual clutch automatic transmission for optimal handling on track. Standard equipment such as an electronic limited slip differential, adjustable exhaust and summer performance tires help make the Veloster N an adept track handler.

If you opt for the dual-clutch automatic model, there is also an N Custom mode available that enables you to tailor various driving settings including throttle response, stability control, steering weight and more - something which makes this feature extremely fun and helps find an optimal driving experience for yourself.

On the road, driving the Veloster N is an exciting experience due to its dual-clutch transmission's quick shifts and quick acceleration from stopping. Car and Driver magazine estimates that its Turbo Ultimate variant can reach 60mph in under six seconds - all but marred by noise caused by sport-tuned suspension and lack of sound dampening materials.

Hyundai claims the Veloster N with a manual gearbox achieves better fuel economy than some rivals, boasting 27 city and 34 highway mpg ratings while auto models produce 20/27/22 combined mileage ratings.

For maximum mileage in your Veloster N, look into getting the Blue Link(r) with Safer MPG. This service gives a real-time fuel economy readout, allows drivers to compete for best MPG ratings, and offers tips and tricks that can help increase mileage. It's available across all models of Veloster N and comes as a free add-on when connecting via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with their smartphones.

Safety

Hyundai Veloster hatchback has garnered widespread acclaim for its unique aesthetic and high-energy performance, but this hatchback also boasts an extensive set of safety features designed to give drivers peace of mind on Bloomington, Martinsville and Ellettsville roads. These features range from forward collision warning to lane-keep assist - so whatever your travel destination, 2021 Veloster provides everything necessary for safe driving experience.

Hyundai is well-renowned for providing industry-leading warranties, and their 2021 Veloster builds upon this legacy by offering one of the longest warranties in its class. Furthermore, this model boasts an abundance of standard driver aids including blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

If manual transmissions aren't your cup of tea, the 2021 Veloster also comes in an engaging dual-clutch automatic that delivers an effortless driving experience. Though its fuel economy estimates are slightly worse than its manual counterparts, we found that the latter's extra gears allow it to better match engine powerband and keep engine revs down when driving on highway roads.

Hyundai's dual-clutch N automatic delivers smooth upshifts and downshifts - an ideal match for its sport coupe's driving characteristics, though we would prefer a shift lever that allowed users to choose their gears manually.

The 2021 Veloster N now comes equipped with a standard Performance Package that increases base horsepower to 275. Additionally, an electronic limited-slip differential and adjustable exhaust are added along with summer performance tires for optimal handling. Furthermore, new front grille, side skirts and rear spoiler enhance its aggressive exterior design, while leather bolstered seats and an expanded infotainment screen add luxury amenities inside this Turbo model.

Technology

Hyundai recognized that its original Veloster had some faults that fell short of drivers' expectations, yet continued trying. Their second generation Veloster proved much more enjoyable to drive and featured extra features that set it apart from its rivals.

Start out with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, offering 147 horsepower. Fuel economy is impressive at an EPA estimated 27 city and 33 highway miles per gallon, but for maximum enjoyment choose the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine which packs more 201 horsepower for increased acceleration.

No matter where your journey may lead you, driving this compact powerhouse will be an enjoyable experience thanks to an advanced infotainment system and driver assistance technologies. A seven-inch display sits right in your line of sight for easy accessing apps like Spotify, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for premium entertainment and navigation features. Bluetooth technology enables hands-free calling so you can remain in contact while keeping an eye on the road; wireless device charging capabilities also keep you powered while out and about.

Use the touchscreen to access N Mode performance pages, including suspension firmness, traction control and exhaust note adjustments using an intuitive spider graph. Furthermore, when driving dynamically the N Track Shift feature automatically activates to select optimal gearing settings for optimal performance.

Other safety innovations include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning system, lane-keep assist and driver attention warning to help keep drivers aware of their surroundings. If the car detects that you have drifted from your lane it will alert both visually and audibly to ensure you remain within it and prevent accidents from occurring.
